My art practice is based on documenting imaginaries of places, as well as collective and individual memories where social, political and cultural structures are shaped in either tangible and intangible forms. I am interested in understanding how we build memories of the places we inhabit and how, as dwellers, we relate to each other. On one hand, this research has led me to witness, document, intervene or design temporary encounters with specific communities. For example, in projects such as: "Micro Voyages" (2008-11), "Projeter se projeter" (2012-13), "Imaginarium" (2013), "Cartografía de migración" (2013), "Arma tu parque" (2017-18). On the other hand, it has led me to build a fiction or speculative stories around documents or fragments, traces or testimonies, and crystalized in projects such as: "Desplazamientos" (2015-16) or "Panoramas" (2015-16).
My research-based methodology is the common foundation for material gathering (testimonies, documents, archives, databases), to develop one or more collections, which then becomes a final product. There are themes often found in my work like: memory, identity, displacement, cartography, migration, territory, language and collective imaginaries. I enjoy working across multiple medias such as drawing, painting, sound, installation, video and text.
In my research, I aim to trace individual narratives and their surrounding systems, which I crystalize in my work as complex formal structures. Likewise, when working with specific communities, it is based and showcased from an internal / external agent point of view, either intimate or distant, and which in some cases belongs to the context and foreign in others.
